Information for Umpires

Are you interested in umpiring for RNC?
If you would like to umpire for Rossmoyne outside of your team commitments or if you would like more information on umpiring please email the club. Your details will then be passed on to the Umpire Coordinator.

All umpires must complete the Netball Australia Rules of Netball Theory Examination and the Foundation Umpiring Course prior to umpiring for the club at Fremantle on Saturdays. Please login using your MyNetball number and password.

Umpire Uniform
All umpires must wear a white shirt - it is NOT acceptable to wear your playing top whilst umpiring. It is preferable to wear a white skirt/shorts however you can wear your playing skirt or other shorts during the regular season for umpiring.

RNC has their own line of white shirts for club umpires. If you are interested in purchasing one of these for a cost of $25 please contact the Umpire Coordinator via the club email

Because umpires still have to umpire when it’s raining, RNC is now offering for purchase a clear rain coat for use while umpiring. These cost only $10 and cab be bought at a uniform fitting session, at the season opener on Sunday 8th April 2018 or by contacting the Umpire Coordinator via the club email

Umpire Essentials
All umpires must bring the following items to their match:

  • Own whistle (whistle sharing is not permitted)
    whistles can be purchased from the FNA office with prices starting at $7. You can also buy whistles from most sports stores
  • An elastic band, hair tie or ring to keep track of centre passes
  • A watch to keep time and to make sure play commences on time
  • A coin or hair tie for the toss
  • A water bottle
  • Rules of Netball handbook (see below)

Rules of Netball Handbook
You can download a copy of the current rule book, which includes the 2018 updates, or purchase a copy through Netball Australia or FNA at a cost of $18.00

Updated Rules for 2018
There have been no major changes to the rules of netball, however there have been some updates to current rules (last released 2016). It is important that all players, umpires and coaches be aware of the modifications. Videos provided by Netball Australia explain the changes.

Team Umpiring Requirements
All players who play in Junior A, 17&Under, 19&Under and Senior grades have compulsory umpiring commitments to the club. These commitments are organised by your Team Manager on a roster basis at the start of the season. Further details will be provided by the Umpire Coordinator prior to the season commencing. Umpire Mentors are available to assist anyone who requests it.
